About

Campfire is an independent publishing press committed to craft. Named for the place where people have always gathered to hear and tell stories as a means of warding off darkness, we look for works that challenge the notion of borders and boundaries. Publishing a curated selection of 1-3 titles per year, Campfire is interested in work that demonstrates a mastery of plot, prose and voice. As a publisher, we are committed to editorial excellence and high production value.

Submissions

Campfire is currently open for submissions. We are accepting query letters via email from authors and agents. Our focus is long-form fiction that interrogates borders and boundaries of any kind. We also publish essay collections on the same theme. We are drawn to compelling voices, articulate points of view, tight pacing, and immaculate prose. Genre fiction does not deter us if the aforementioned criteria is met.

Campfire welcomes and encourages submissions from writers of all races, faiths, ages, nationalities, disabilities, genders, gender expressions, and sexual orientations. We are especially passionate about immigrant and expatriate stories, and work by African-born authors.

Submissions Requirements

Queries and submissions should include an author background and publication history, a synopsis of the proposed work, and one sample chapter. Please submit all materials in a manuscript formatted PDF with 1.5 spacing and 12pt Times New Roman font. Please indicate if the work has been simultaneously submitted elsewhere.
